Zone 6 – October
Strike King pro Jay Przekurat says that bass are in “fall feed mode” and has a few favorite locations he loves to fish during October in Zone 6.
“October for Zone 6 is the time of the year when the bass are in full out fall feed mode. This is their last chance to catch a big meal before they go and lay low for the winter months,” Przekurat says. Bass are on the move because of the falling water temperatures. “Water temperatures will be in the 50's and upper 40's for the most part. Following baitfish and keying in on places that are close to deep water where the bass will end up wintering are the places that I focus on,” he shares. Wind also plays a large role in Zone 6 during October. “When wind is present, those can be some of best times to catch some crazy amounts of bass in October,” assures Przekurat.
BAIT 1: Strike King Rage Swimmer 3 3/4"
If the water is clear, Przekurat prefers Electric Shad Rage Swimmer. In stained water, he switches to Green Gizzard Shad. For muddy water, he will favor Pro Blue Red Pearl.
If fish are not chasing a fast-moving bait, the Rage Swimmer will often trigger fish to respond. The beauty of the Rage Swimmer is that the legendary tail maintains its swimming action whether burned through a school of feeding fish, or slowly crawled across the bottom or through cover.
BAIT 2: Strike King Rage Luau Craw (COMING SOON!)
Przekurat’s choice for clear water is Green Pumpkin, while he opts for Blue Craw if the water is stained. He picks up Bama Craw when fishing in low-vis conditions.
Built with patented rage flange technology and a soft plastic skirt attached the head of the bait, the Luau Craw is perfect for rigging alone on a jighead or Texas rigging it to fish it through cover. The skirt pulls tightly to the body when it's moved through the water and slowly expands as it sits still, giving the look of fleeing prey. The Rage Luau Craw will be available later this year.
BAIT 3: Strike King Tour Grade Titanium Umbrella Rig with Rage Swimmer Trailer
He opts for Blue Gizzard in clear, stained, and muddy water with Rage Swimmer trailers.
The stiffer wire on the Bladed Tour Grade Titanium Umbrella Rig provides more stability than other umbrella rigs while the five blades flash and swivel to attract fish.
BAIT 4: Strike King Coffee Fat Tube 2.75"
If the water is clear, he will throw Green Pumpkin Purple Coffee Tube, while more stained water calls for Light Melon Purple. Przekurat opts for the Smoke Red Black Flake in muddy water.
The coffee scent causes fish to hold onto the tube longer while masking human and plastic scents. The small tails of the Coffee Tube replicate falling baitfish/prey in the water, attracting more strikes in the spring and summer months.
BAIT 5: Strike King Tour Grade Spinnerbait 1/2oz
He opts for the Blue Glimmer Tour Grade Spinnerbait in clear water. If the water is stained, he will throw Chartreuse White, while he will switch to Cole Slaw if the water is muddy.
Strike King’s Tour Grade Spinnerbait has a weight-forward head design for smooth movement through cover and a durable Gamakatsu® hook for solid hooksets every time.
BAIT 1: Strike King KVD Finesse Spinnerbait 3/8oz
In clear water, Przekurat with utilize the Blue Gizzard KVD Finesse Spinnerbait. Super White is his choice in stained or muddy water.
The perfect all-around spinnerbait, Strike King’s KVD Finesse Spinnerbait features a smaller, redesigned Perfect Skirt® with natural colors for a realistic look and smaller profile in the water.
