Zone 6 – April
Strike King pro Jay Przekurat shares why open water will be the best place to target bass in Zone 6 during April.
“Where there is open water, there are some ways to catch bass even though they are most likely still in wintertime mode,” says Przekurat. When targeting bass in deeper water, Przekurat has two techniques that he recommends. “Super slow presentation and fishing vertical are key with these bass and can be very effective when trying to target them in deep water,” Przekurat advises. The amount of sunshine will also be a factor in determining where bass might be holding in April. “There will be a mixture of fish deep and shallow depending on the day and how much sunshine is present at the time,” shares Przekurat.
BAIT 1: Strike King Baby Z-Too
If the water is clear, Przekurat prefers Pearl Blue Glimmer Back. In stained water, he switches to Deal. For muddy water, he will favor Pearl.
Designed for those willing to dropshot a jerkbait, the Baby Z-Too provides a deadly, secret presentation with a killer shimmy that no other soft bait can offer. The Baby Z-Too is salt-impregnated for higher buoyancy and a molded in-belly slot for easy rigging.
BAIT 2: Strike King KVD J300
Przekurat’s choice for clear or stained water is Pro Blue, while he opts for Pro Citrus if the water is muddy.
The KVD J300 has the perfect combination of roll, wiggle, and flash. High quality features and advanced technologies give this jerkbait the advantage over others of its kind.
BAIT 3: Strike King Ned Ocho
He opts for Green Pumpkin in clear water, and switches to Blue Craw if the water is stained. Przkeurat prefers Red Bug in low-vis water conditions.
KVD Perfect Plastics Ned Ocho has a heavily ribbed, octagonal design, a slow sink rate, and an exclusive coffee scent for attracting more bites.
BAIT 4: Strike King 2.75” Coffee Fat Tube
If the water is clear, he will throw Green Pumpkin, while more stained water calls for Light Melon Purple. Gobylicious is Przkeurat’s first choice when fishing in muddy water.
Sure to entice aggressive bites from hungry fish, Strike King’s Coffee Fat Tube is enhanced with real coffee bean granules and coffee bean oil for a strong, earthy scent and taste that bass simply cannot resist.
BAIT 5: Strike King Red Eyed Shad
He opts for Chrome Blue in clear water. If the water is stained, he will throw TN Shad 2.0, while he will switch to Orange Belly Craw if the water is muddy.
The Red Eyed Shad has incredible action and a uniquely-shaped profile for unbeatable performance. The red 3D eyes and wide spectrum of colors make the Red Eyed Shad the perfect crankbait in a variety of fishing situations.
BAIT 6: Strike King Gravel Dawg
Przekurat will utilize Brown Phantom Craw when fishing in clear water and switch to Ghost Herring in stained conditions.
Delivering a wide wobble action in a bite-sized, 1.5 profile, Strike King's Gravel Dawg 10 grinds through rock, wood, and grass better than any medium-diving crank bait in its class. Strike King pros Todd Castledine and Kevin VanDam worked diligently to design the ideal, “go to” crankbait for anglers across the country. The Gravel Dawg 10 features new craw patterns in addition to some of Strike King's most famous colors.
BAIT 7: Strike King KVD Sinking Deep Jerkbait
When conditions are clear, he chooses Clear AYU but uses Pro Blue in stained conditions. Pro Bone is Przekurat’s top choice in muddy water.
The new KVD J300 Deep Sinking Jerkbait allows you to fish a jerkbait in depths that no other jerkbait can get to. Watch it sink down on your forward-facing sonar until it gets to the depth you desire, then start ripping it back to the boat and watch the fish go crazy. The jerkbait is weighted perfectly to sink nearly 0.5-feet per second and maintains the amazing erratic action of the standard KVD 300 Deep Jerkbait.
